Making Gold From Noblegarden

The best way to make gold from Noblegarden is to sell any Spring Rabbit’s Feet you get either from a drop from opening a Noblegarden Egg or from buying one for 100 Noblegarden Chocolates. The Spring Rabbit’s Foot will sell for between 100g and 250g, depending on your server. They will probably sell for more at the beginning of Noblegarden. Its not a great holiday to make gold but you can make a little bit.

News making the waves across the WoW blogs are discussing a new area where Whiptail nodes seem to constantly respawn and the markets are being flooded with this herb.

If you log onto your server and search for Whiptail you will no doubt see a 15-30% decrease in the price.

Here’s the particular farming spot everyone has been going on about, in Uldum where you can stand in one spot and see 6 different nodes spawning rapidly:

I don’t think blizzard meant for the whiptail buff to be this dramatic, as it has already had large impacts on the WoW economy, some of which I’d like to discuss.

Whiptail Supply Goes Up, All Herb Prices Go Down

Not only does the price of whiptail drop significantly but the price of all other herbs will see a similar drop. Yes there are certain flasks and items that only require whiptail as a regeant but for all items where whiptail is a reageant the total cost to craft that item goes down which also lowers the value of the item and all the other regeants for that item.

Big Impact on Inscription Market

This is a delicate market where herbs dictate the costs of all glyphs and darkmoon cards. Since Whiptail is one of the higher end herbs that yield more inferno ink than the lower end ones it is gauranteed that the price of inferno ink will drop, making it cheaper for darkmoon cards to be made, driving down the prices of all darkmoon card decks.

With prices at 7g per Whiptail I am basically able to my glyphs FOR FREE if I am able to get 150g per inferno ink. Before I assumed my costs were about 35g per glyph so do I lower my threshold now? do I assume my costs will be lower, say 10g per glyph?

Hotfix Patch 4.0.6a Launched

While typing up this post I just noticed that my server was being reset and subsequently MMO-Champion has announced that a new hotfix 4.0.6a is being deployed on servers this morning, if I was a betting man I’d say the whiptail spawning rate is going to be fixed and the markets will normalize.

But will they normalize? since we are still in the expansion where prices continue to decline (albeit at a much slower percentage than in the first few weeks on the expansion) I don’t really foresee prices going back to the 12g per whiptail happening, since the supply of herbs are still somewhat higher than the current demand.

Did you get a chance to farm up lots of whiptail? did you buy out a lot of stock while prices were low? I guess we’ll see if the spawn rate really does get nerfed or if we’ll all have to adjust to this new market with lower herb prices.

A blue poster has confirmed today that ink traders will be added to both Stormwind and Orgrimmar in patch 4.0.6:

“Ink Traders are being added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar in 4.0.6.”

People have been requesting an ink trader be added to major cities since the start of Cataclysm, given that there are no longer portals available in Dalaran and since most people have their hearthstones set to either Stormwind or Orgimmar you’d have to find a mage to teleport you each time you need to craft glyphs and waste your hearth cooldown to get back.

I would be more excited about the news but for me it was never a big hinderance, I have engineering and with the Wormhole Generator: Northrend it was very easy for me to teleport over, I was even considering spending the 8,000g on the ring that teleports you directly to dalaran to save me from flying from storm peaks (since the wormhole generator doesn’t go directly to dalaran), good thing I didn’t now.

For me this is bad news as it may entice more people to get back into the inscription market since this reduces the effort or barriers to craft glyphs but I do see it as a positive change to the game as a whole.

The new ink traders can be found beside the Inscription Supplies vendors in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, you can also find them on the PTR right now.

I am excited to share with you guys an awesome farming spot where you can make 2000 gold an hour.

Farming is looked down upon by experienced gold makers as the gold per hour or gold per effort is usually pretty low when compared to a crafting profession.  However crafting professions need a good amount of gold to be able to make a profit and farming can be a great way to earn enough gold to buy materials or to power level a crafting profession.

At 2,000g/hour though this method surpasses even some crafting professions as to the amount of profit you can make for your time!

Farming Volatile Fire in Twilight Highlands

I was preparing to do another extensive article on the best places to farm volatile fire, just like my previous article on farming volatile air but one spot blew the others out of the ballpark so much that I am going to detail this one farming location as the others are moot in comparison.

Head over to Cannon’s Inferno in Twilight Highlands, make sure you bring your fishing rod.

Here you’ll be looking for the mobs Enslaved Infernos which drop volatile fire, the red dots on the map below show the locations where they spawn:

The first time I came here and starting killing the Infernos I found I quickly ran out of them to kill and was waiting around for respawn times, hardly good for a high gold/hour or drop rate, but there is another catch to this particular farming spot for volatile fire that makes it so sweet.

Fishing Volatile Fire from Pool of Fire

I totally forgot about these since the last time I did fishing was back in Burning Crusade. 4 different pools of fire spawn around in the lava that fish a volatile fire everytime, you can get anywhere from 1-3 volatile fires per cast and can cast 3 times on the same pool. So you could potentially get 9 volatile fires per pool x 4 pools = 36 volatile fires in about 5 minutes! That is with some big luck but even average out at 6 per pool x 4 pools = 24!

The pools of fire take between 5-10 minutes to respawn.

You can tell where a pool is when there is flame coming up from the lava, don’t be fooled by the flames that are on the edges of the lava and rock as those aren’t pools.

The best part is that there is no required fishing level to fish the pools, you can do it right from level 1 as long as you have a fishing pole with you.

Results of An Hour Farming Run

I farmed this spot for an hour, making sure I first fished the pools to start their respawn timer then I proceeded in killing all the Enslaved Infernos, even the 3 spawns that are over the hill, there would be about a 1 minute wait time for respawns then the whole cycle would repeat again.

In an hour of farming this spot I was able to get 86 Volatile Fire’s. They sell for 22g on my server meaning I made 1,892g.

That isn’t including the green item drops, crackling crystals and shimmering shards.

Bonus Tip – Finding Fish

One annoying part of this method is straining your eyes looking for the flames coming out of the fire.

If you remember back to patch 2.3 blizzard released a way to track fishing pools, so you could just fly by and it’ll show up right away where each of the pools are.

In order to get the ability to track fishing pools you’ll need to have 100 fishing skill and obtain the Weather-Beaten Journal. This journal is fished from pile of debris (pools), the drop rates vary but I read on Elsanglin.com that the best place to fish for them are the floating wreckage pools found in either Ashenvale, Hillsbrad Foothills, Stonetalon Mountains and Wetlands.

I went there and within 3 casts I got my journal and the ability to track pools!

I was able to achieve this amount of volatile fire because there was no competition at the time and I’m sure this will become more and more competitive as additional players learn about the spot. Be sure to cash in now and make gold farming this spot then invest it into some crafting professions, once you’ve made enough to invest into professions I recommend reading Markco’s Guide to quickly learn how to pull in thousands of gold a day with each profession. A new addon has hit the scene and while it is still in Beta I see it as the next big thing in gold making.

The addon is called Trade Skill Master and it was developed by the same people who brought us Auction Profit Master and ScrollMaster.

No longer do you need multiple addons as this has almost everything bundled into one:

1. Uses auction house data to determine crafting costs and profit margins

2. Queues up items based on current inventory and desired profit margins and quantity

3. Posts items just like QA3, Zeroauctions or APM, based on thresholds and fallback prices

4. Has its own built in AuctionDB for tracking auction house prices, an inventory database to track items across alts and its own Snatch feature (called Dealfinding)

A new build on the PTR for patch 4.0.6 has listed the new prices for grey artifact items when grinding archaeology.

Don’t get too excited however, the amount of gold one could hope to gain per hour is still a measly 140g but the increase in prices are large, between 1000% – 3000% increases.

This change won’t be implemented until 4.0.6 launches, so be sure to keep any grey archaeology items you may have in the bank until then.

MMO-Champion has listed on a nice chart the current prices of each grey and the changes in the new build, go over and check it out.

As for a gold making method, 140g an hour is way behind any other kind of gathering you could do or crafting profession, however there are a large amount of people who do this profession for the rare weapons and this change will help pad their pockets a little bit.

Inscription is my main source of gold so far in Cataclysm. It only requires about an hour a day to pull in my profits but I wouldn’t get near this efficiency with my time without the proper addons to not only focus my efforts on the most profitable glyphs but to keep fully stocked on the AH at all times.

In this article I will go through the routine I use to craft glyphs and the addons I utilize in each of the steps. I learned a lot after reading WoW Schools guide and combined his methods there with these addons to make 4-5,000g profit a day.

1) Inventory Count – Altoholic

The first thing I do each day is log onto my 3 banking alts to empty the mailbox of any glyphs that have sold/expired and repost glyphs. This gives the addon Altoholic a chance to see what is in each of those characters bags/auction house so that it knows my inventory count of each glyph.

2) Scan the Auction House – Auctioneer

After your inventory has been accounted for you need to scan the whole auction house to know the current price of all glyphs. Using Auctioneer you can type in “/auc getall” and scan the AH within 3 minutes. This will update the price of every glyph so that you are only crafting glyphs above your acceptable profit margins.

3) Queue Glyphs – KTQ, Skillet and LSWS

Now it’s time to craft, since our addons know our current inventory count and the price of all glyphs we can use Kev Tool Queue (KTQ) to only queue glyphs above a certain price. In order for KTQ to know the price it uses Lil’Sparkys Workshop’s database.

Right before you queue up your glyphs ensure that you have enabled KTQ’s price threshold:

/KTQ enable threshold

/ktq set threshold 60g    (This will only craft glyphs that are going for more than 60g each)

After you’ve enabled this, we are now ready to queue up all the glyphs in skillet with the command: /ktq queue 4 glyphs   (or however many you’d like to craft)

4) Buy Materials – Auctionator + Skillet

Right after you type in the /ktq queue command you’ll see in your text window “Total added: 208″ or whatever amount of glyphs have been added. You’ll know that you need 3x that amount in inks to craft those glyphs, for 208 glyphs I’ll need to craft 624 inks which will take roughly 124 stacks of herbs or 2480 herbs.

Another great feature of skillet is that you can click on the Shopping List button and see exactly how much you need of every glyph, this is a great way to save lots of gold on your materials since a lot of the lower level herbs you can get much cheaper than Cataclysm herbs.

At this point I open the auction house and click on the Auctionator Buy tab and also have the shopping list open as well. I proceed to buy up low priced lower end herbs and cataclysm herbs, I know how many I need to buy by dividing the number of inks I need by 5 and then that is the amount of stacks of that specific herb I need (ex. if I need 30 ethereal inks = 30/5 = 6 stacks of herbs that can be crafted into ethereal inks- ancient lichen, dreaming glory, felweed, manathistle etc… all of these I have on shopping lists within auctionator)

5) Mill Herbs – Enchantrix

With all the herbs we bought from the auction house we’ll have to find a fast way to convert them into inks. The fastest way I found is to use the Enchantrix addon (which comes bundled with auctioneer).

To enable the addon type “/enchantrix config”, click on “automation” and click the check box “watch bags for disenchantable items”. This will automatically show a pop-up to confirm milling any herbs in your bags once they are higher than a stack of 5.

All you need to do then is click on confirm or to really speed things along make a macro with the command “/click AutoDEPromptYes” I bind this to my number 1 key and click away as I’m watching TV.

6) Craft the Glyphs – Skillet

It’s time to go through your entire crafting queue that you have set up. After you finished milling and crafting the inks you’ll want to convert the remainder of inks you require at jessica sellers. Another reason I really like skillet over the other crafting addons is the “buy reagents” tab that comes up if that vendor sells things that are currently on your shopping list, it will buy the correct quantity you need. Do the same for any parchments you need from the vendor right beside jessica.

With all the materials now in your bag you’re ready to start crafting glyphs. I have another macro I use to craft each item in my skillet queue “/click SkilletStartQueueButton”. Proceed to watch another TV show as the queue dwindles down.

7) Mail Glyphs to Posting Alts – Auction Profit Master

At certain times while you’re crafting glyphs you’ll notice that you’re inventory is getting full. You can either move items to your bank or you can automatically mail off items to your posting alts. If you are familiar with Quick Auctions 3, Zeroauctions or Auction Profit Master you’ll notice that you can type in a player name then set which item “groups” you want to automatically be mailed to those players.

For example, I have all my glyphs sorted out into 3 different groups, Glyph 1, Glyph 2, Glyph 3. I have Group 1 set to Alt 1, Group 2 to Alt 2 and so on, so when my inventory starts to get full on glyphs I just run to the mailbox and click the “Auction Profit Master: Auto Mail” and it sends off everything in a flash.

8) Post Glyphs – Auction Profit Master

The best addon for posting glyphs is either Zeroauctions or Auction Profit Master. I personally use APM since the developer of ZA has stated there wouldn’t be on-going support for the addon in future patches, both are pretty much the exact same addon.

APM allows you to create groups where you set how much quantity to post at a time, the lowest and highest prices you’re willing to sell at. When you press the post button it’ll check what’s currently on the AH then post everything that meets your configs criteria.

I shared a tip on the site back on December 22nd about how a player with 500 alchemy and enchanting could create the lifebound alchemist stone and disenchant it into a Maelstrom Crystal. This was hotfixed in patch 4.0.3a which was released on live servers Tuesday January 18, 2011.

The beauty of this gold making method was that the cost of materials for the Lifebound Alchemist Stone was only around 800g whereas Maelstrom Crystals sold for around 2,500g (back on December 22nd), that is a profit of 1,700g for each maelstrom crystal you manage to sell.

Unfortunately I am late reporting this hotfix, the ideal situation would of been to buy out the AH of all the maelstrom crystal you could of, they were selling for 1900g on average before the fix and now they are going for 2800g!

Time to keep our eyes open for the next cheapest way to get our maelstrom crystals for those expensive enchants.

Between WOTLK and Cataclysm the whole glyph market changed completely, we went from a commodity market where glyphs were constantly being bought up as players glyphed for different pvp/pve situations to a market where the sales are now much lower as each character needs to buy glyphs only once but prices are higher.

On this blog I share all my gold making strategies and which ones are generating the most income. This used to be an easy task as I was able to export my beancounter data into excel then use my excel mastery to sort it out in pivot tables/filters to make some pretty graphs and go about disecting the numbers in a post.

Unfortunately my previous method of exporting to excel doesn’t work anymore this has become more difficult, however I recently stumbled on an addon called My Sales which has been collecting data on my glyph sales in the past 2 weeks or so.

I hope that by seeing a list of my best selling glyphs you can ensure you are crafting these as well and pulling in profits, another method of figuring out which glyphs to craft is to use www.wowpopular.com and only crafting the most popular glyphs (although they could be the ones with the most undercutting and competition too)

Highest Profit Glyphs in Cataclysm

The first figure I’d like to share is which glyphs have given me the most profit per glyph, or the glyphs that sell the highest per unit on average. It would be safe to assume that these glyphs are the ones with the most demand and not much competition, or the current supply isn’t enough to cover the demand.

As the list shows above, my highest profitable glyphs are Glyph of Shockwave, Glyph of Hammer of Righteous, and Glyph of Ice Barrier. These glyphs are selling for 166-179g each, and given my costs are 55g each, I’m pulling in a profit of 111 – 123g each sale.

Best Selling Glyphs in Cataclysm

In this next list I’ll sort my glyph sales by quantity sold, keep in mind that I don’t sell any glyphs below 58g. When I look at the glyphs on this list I have to pay certain attention to the ones that sell in very high quantities and a high price, these are glyphs that are at risk of going out of stock and I may not be posting enough at a time to reap in the maximum profit.

Glyph of Word of Glory and Glyph of Berserk are glyphs that seem to sell consistently high and I sell a lot of them so I’ll take a look and make sure I’m not selling out of them before having the chance to post up more stock in my next cycle.

Glyphs that Earn Me The Most Gold

The last list we are going to look at are the glyphs that I’ve earned the most revenue from, so this is a combination of the quantity sold and the money per sale.

This list shows an example of  something like Glyph of Explosive Shot – in 6th/7th place on the other charts (neither near my highest profit per sale nor highest quantity sold) you can see that it ranks 2nd at the glyph that’s earned me the most revenue.

Are these lists consistent with the sales you’re experiencing on your servers?

Cataclysm has introduced new elemental items that are heavily used in professions which are Volatile Air, Fire, Earth, Water and Life. The WOTLK versions were Eternal and Burning Crusade was Primals.

These items sell for a good amount since they are constantly in demand, although crafting items and selling them on the Auction House is a much faster way to make gold, farming is a great way to get initial gold if you are broke or need funds to powerlevel a profession.

I am on the hunt in Cataclysm to find the best items to farm for the highest gold/hour rate and when I looked at the auction house Volatile Air seemed to be in high demand across every server and seemed like a worthy item that could offer a high gold/hour reward for those looking to farm up some gold.

Here are all the best zones to farm Volatile Air and which one gives you the highest gold/hour and Volatile Air an hour. Starting with the best spot.

Uldum – Scion of Al’Akir at Orsis

Out of all the spots I farmed in my trials I found the Scion of Al’Akir in Uldum to give the most volatile air, there are tons of them that spawn around the Orsis with about 4 that spawn inside. The spot isn’t camped to heavily and it’s easy to sneak up on them as a rogue since they remain standing in one spot facing south the whole time.

Volatile Air – 26 ( x 30g each = 780g)

Crackling crystals – 111 ( x 0.2073g each = 23g 1s)

Shimmering Shards – 30 ( x 0.4323g each = 12g 97s)

Total Gold An Hour = 816g 7s

Twilight Highland – Storm Vortex’s Above Victor’s Point

This is the most heavily farmed spot and for good reason. Storm Vortex’s spawn in a small circular area, there are about 4 single ones that spawn seperately within the inner circle in the pit while others pawn outside with a humanoid caster with them. I would usually just sap the humanoid and kill off the storm vortex and either vanish or just sprint to the next storm vortex in sight.

In an hour of farming this spot I looted the following:

Volatile Air – 21 ( x 30g each = 630g)

Crackling crystals – 60 ( x 0.2073g each = 12g 43s)

Shimmering Shards – 32 ( x 0.4323g each = 13g 89s)

Embersilk Cloth – 13 ( x 6g 30s each = 81g 90s)

Green Items – 2 ( x 25g value you could sell to an enchanter = 50g)

Total Gold An Hour = 788g 52s

Mount Hyjal – Howling Riftdweller below Shrine of Goldrinn

Initially I thought this would be a fantastic spot, not heavily farmed and you can get in a really good rhythm constantly killing these mobs, they are also level 80 which makes them the fastest to kill out of any of the other spots. However they have the lowest drop rate of volatile airs.

Spending an hour here I looted the following:

Volatile Air – 19 ( x 30g each = 570g)

Hoary Crystals – 164 ( x 0.1956g each = 32g 7s)

Efflorescing Shards – 32 ( x 0.25 each = 8g)

Greens = 3 ( x 25g value you could sell to an enchanter = 75g)

Total Gold An Hour = 685g 7s

Twilight Highlands – Enslaved Tempest at The Twilight Citadel

Even though WoWhead shows that these are the mobs with the highest drop rate of volatile air they are so spread out that it isn’t the most efficient place to farm them. The nice thing is that they do spawn by themselves, but other mobs do frequently path close to them.

Another thing I like about this farming spot is that you can also farm volatile fire and volatile water in the same area, I’ll share a bit about this below.

Here were my results farming for an hour:

Volatile Air – 18 ( x 30g each = 540g)

Crackling crystals – 71 ( x 0.2073g each = 14g 72s)

Shimmering Shards – 15 ( x 0.4323g each = 6g 45s)

Green Items – 3 ( x 25g value you could sell to an enchanter = 75g)

Total Gold An Hour = 636g 17s

Bonus Tip

While this spot may be the worst to farm volatile air’s only, if you are looking to make the most gold an hour by farming this place has an even higher gold/hour rate than the #1 farming spot at the top of this list.

I chose instead of only going after Enslaved Tempests to kill all the elementals (fire/water/air) and see how much gold/hour I could get in an hour of farming. Here’s how much I made:

Volatile Air – 18 ( x 30g each = 540g)

Volatile Fire – 6 ( x 20g each = 120g

Volatile Water – 15 ( x 20g each = 300g)

Crackling Crystals – 78 ( x 0.2073g each = 16g 17s)

Shimmering Shards – 28 ( x 0.4323g each = 12g 10s)

green items – 3 ( x 25g value you could sell to an enchanter = 75g)

Total Gold An Hour = 1,063g 27s

If you are going after only Volatile Air’s, then go to Uldum, but if you are trying to make gold to invest into professions (since they are the highest gold earner per hour) then I’d suggest heading over to Twilight Highlands at the Twilight Citadel and killing all the elementals you see and make over 1,000g an hour. Once you’ve made enough to invest into professions I recommend reading Markco’s Guide to quickly learn how to pull in thousands of gold a day with each profession. Good luck!
