I wanted to post a quick update and catch people up on what’s going on as this has been a weird week.
Hitting the Gold Cap
I am still on my quest to reach the gold cap, currently sitting at around 70,000g with over 20 completed darkmoon cards: greatness, illusion, death and berserker sitting on my posting bank alt.
However I have been experiencing a huge amount of lag every night (Between the hours of 8:00pm – 11:30pm EST) on the Tichondrius server which is heavily populated and part of Battlegroup 9 Bloodlust.
This is pretty much the only time I have available to play. Due to this lag I haven’t been able to post, craft or really play the game at all on my main server which has halted my progress to hit the cap so I am going over some other options.
To Transfer or Not?
I can character transfer, since it looks like this latency problem isn’t getting better anytime soon (has been going on for 7 days in a row now and comes back every patch update). You can only transfer a maximum of 20,000g, so I would have to buy up 50,000g worth of stuff.
I’ve been thinking of transferring for a long time now as the normal latency is pretty high for me since the BG9 servers are located in Los Angeles and I’m in Toronto, Canada. I have tested it out and can see that my latency is way better on the Boston servers.
I also dislike being on a “full” server as there are latency problems on patch days or when there are events, and also long queue times between 9pm-11pm.
New Projects
Beginner and Low Level Gold Making Tips
While I think about this decision I have started a level 1 priest on another server (currently at level 9). This character will be used as a way to perform research for my upcoming series of posts on gold making for low levels and beginners.
For those that follow the site and are looking for level 80 related gold making articles, hang tight, I’ll still be working on some upcoming Jewelcrafting and Enchanting guides, but I just wanted to let you know of the halt in the gold making progress for now.
Level 1 Auction House Flipping Alt
On this new server I am also going to do a walkthrough of how a level 1 goes from 0 copper to thousands of gold in just a couple days by buying/selling on the auction house.
I thought ‘d it be interesting to compare how much a new player can expect to make from gathering professions while they are leveling vs. playing the auction house flipping game to make gold.
I am currently going through the process of doing AH scans to collect data, this needs to be done for a week so that you know the new servers market and prices.
AppearanceĀ on Elitist Podcast
I was on the Elitist podcast this past Saturday to talk gold making. The podcast will be posted Thursday and a link to the show will be provided once it’s live.
Thanks for following the blog, I always enjoy hearing your comments and devoting my time to help you all get gold faster. A lot more to come so stay tuned!

Will,
The Blog is great! Keep it up! You and Tella from “Hit the Cap” are my motivation to make tons of gold. I love hearing your stories and new ideas on gold making strategies. I also have a level 1 character I am testing with. I cant wait to read/hear what you have in store for us.
(your videos are great!)
On a side note, I play on a high pop realm as well… the lag is horrible, and not much can be done for it. Transferring servers may not help unfortunately. With a new arena season and the final wing if ICC out, its prime time for both PVE and PVP players. But, being on a low population server would stop the evening queue times. But personally, imo paying for a transfer is not worth it. But hey, I’m all about what helps you, help us, make more gold!
Thanks for the comment, it definitely motivates me to do better with my articles when I know other players can find some helpful tips in them.
As for server transfer, Tich I can barely play on, but if I log onto another server that is at medium population and on a Boston data center I get 50 latency and it is super smooth.
I’m just outside of Toronto and play on a server in the Whirlwind BG (Seattle data center) with hardly any latency. Maybe it’s an issue with your ISP? I’m on Bell DSL. If you do transfer, I’d definitely recommend rolling an alt on a few different servers and playing for a while before jumping so you can be sure. Also don’t forget that doing your crafting/auctioning in a low pop city (Exodar/Silvermoon) will do wonders for your latency too.
I’m on Rogers cable internet, it is definitely something wrong with the BG9 servers for me. I can log on other medium pop servers and have no latency issues whatsoever, but once I go on Tich it takes a minute to get 1 piece of mail.
Yea bloodlust has been horrible lately it’s barely tolerable. I feel your pain, I’m on proudmoore which hasn’t been much better, along with being fairly close to Toronto here in Hammertown. I’ve thought of transferring before as well because of lag and the whole bloodlust servers being about as far away as it can be from me.
looks like they are working on a big fix for the servers and yours is on the list too – http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=23141114035&sid=1
guess we’ll see how long it takes and if it fixes my issue, good luck to you.
I like giving my AH alts a 50-100g starting capital. It is much quicker making money that way. Otherwise you waste the first few days building up from silver, and copper.

Yea that is a good point, I’ll probably end up doing that.
What I may do is get the level 1 to get a few silver first, grab mining, go out and mine some copper, put that on the AH for sale, get 20g in the first day then use that to flip so that it is all “legit” and from that level 1 character.
So basically a player who just started the game with a level 1 could do the exact same thing without any starting capital.
Mining has been very profitable for my lowbie toons. Whenever I create toons on a brand-new server I usually pick up that skill. It’s very easy to make a few thousand gold w/i a few days selling the ore, purchasing low priced items on the Ah and flipping them and reselling vendor recipes at a higher price on the Auction House. It doesn’t take long either. I don’t spend a lot of time at the AH. It’s usually less than 15 mintues but sometimes I might be on there a bit longer.
With the exception of my newest server the other three servers I made toons on I didn’t bring a higher level toon so I was starting from scratch. I created a few bank toons, and made one of them a miner too. That way my ‘main toon’ on that server could mine, send the ore to the banker who would sell the copper ore or smelt the bars.
I imagine some of the new players might not even know about the Auction House. I started playing a few years ago and never paid attention tot he Auction House until my toon was 30’s. I’ve met a few players like that since then too.
