Analysis and Discussion of Making Gold in World of Warcraft

crafting-speed

I usually do all of my glyph crafting in Dalaran because of the conveinence of having Jessica Sellers the Ink Trader right next to me when I am ready to convert all of my inks of the sea into the various inks required to craft the glyphs I have queued up.

The problem is that Dalaran is a very busy zone, one of the laggiest for my computer, and I sometimes find that crafting takes 2x longer than it should.

So I decided to experiment and see what the difference was between crafting in Dalaran and an unpopulated zone to speed up my inscription business and the other items I craft with Luke’s Guide.

How to Craft Faster in WoW

Experiment one – time to mill and craft 50 inks in Dalaran (busy)

low-fps-crafting-time

Location: Dalaran – looking at the bank

FPS: 7
Latency: 167ms
Time to mill 100 azure pigments  = 2 minutes 28 seconds
Time to Craft 50 inks = 2 minutes 25 seconds

Total: 4 minutes 53 seconds

Experiment two – time to mill and craft 50 inks in Silvermoon (unpopulated)

high-fps-crafting-time1

Location: Silvermoon – looking at a wall beside Auction House

FPS: 44
Latency: 149
Time to mill 100 azure pigments  = 1 minute 55 seconds
Time to Craft 50 inks = 1 minute 55 seconds

Total: 3 minutes and 50 seconds

Results

Milling time: 148 seconds (Dalaran) –  115 seconds (Silvermoon) = 33 seconds faster or 22% faster milling

Crafting time: 145 seconds (Dalaran) – 115 seconds (Silvermoon) = 30 seconds faster or 21% faster crafting

Totals: 293 seconds (Dalaran) – 230 seconds (Silvermoon) = 63 seconds faster or 21.5% faster in Silvermoon

So the results are pretty conclusive, 20% faster crafting in a lower populated area. There were less “pauses” and hick ups when I was crafting in Silvermoon.

The only downside to this is having to hearth back to Dalaran to get the batch of inks needed but seeing as how this would take off 18 minutes from my 1 hour 30 minutes of crafting daily with inscription I’d say it’s worth the extra 3 minutes hearthing back and then jumping into the portal back to Silvermoon.

I also found that batch posting and collecting mail was much faster as well.

Where do you do your crafting? Why not give this a try in a lower populated area and see if you get the same results.

That’s damn interesting. I didn’t imagine that crafting had anything to do with lag. I mean, it should be a server affair. What I see on my screen could be client-related but perhaps it’s not.

It’s not his fps.. the item servers are super busy in dalaran and everything takes more time there.
