Recently I’ve noticed the amount of time I devote to making gold has dropped dramatically. From 4 hours a day to 1 hour and 40 minutes.
This is due to a few factors, milling time has been reduced to 1 second, I only craft glyphs above a 9g threshold now (around 175 glyphs/day) and I’ve done all the necessary setting up with QA3, Snatch and Auctioneer to automate every aspect of figuring out what to craft, sourcing cheap materials, crafting, and posting.
Here’s a breakdown of my current gold making routine (patch 3.3.3):
6:30pm
1. Log on JC – collect expired/successful auctions, do a /auc getall scan and snatch search for cheap gems/ore/green gems/eternal earth. Buy up anything that is below my “buy” price that I listed in my JC spreadsheet.
Craft gems using my KTQ macros to fill up anything I’m low on inventory on, post using quick auctions.
6:50pm
2. Log on my 3 Inscription posting alts, collect expired/successful auctions, open auction house, then log off. This updates my altoholic inventory levels so KTQ knows what I’m low on inventor on and what to craft to bring it to my desired /ktq queue #
7:00pm
3. Log on Inscription crafter, do another /auc getall scan to update prices and do a Resale search to buy up any low priced items to flip for profit.
Use auctionator and click on the “Inscription” shopping list that has all the herbs I normally buy. Buy up all adders/icethorn/lichbloom for under 1g20s per unit. I also buy up Tiger lily and lower end Northrend herbs if they are 50-60% of the price of the higher end herbs.
Do a “glypher” scan, this will scan only glyphs on the auction house and update my KTQ “threshold” number. I set my threshold to only craft glyphs currently selling for higher than 9g. This number may be updated from my /auc getall scan but it has just become a habit and it only takes 2 minutes.
Start milling, watch a youtube vid, talk on forums/chat etc.
Craft 175 glyphs, vellums, runescrolls, offhands. Mail items to alts to post using Quick Auctions auto mailer.
7:45pm
4. Log on each posting alt, collect glyphs sent to them, post. I used to do a cancel/repost cycle at this stage but it would take 35 minutes to do that. With just posting the newly crafted glyphs it only takes 10 minutes.
What I’ve done is since I post 5x every glyph above my threshold, I now have 15x of each glyph in my inventory. This means that if I post at 48 hour intervals, and only once a night, I will get back the expired glyphs in my mail 2 days later but will always have a fresh batch to post without having to do any canceling. Day 1 – post 5x, Day 2 – post 2nd batch 5x, Day 3- post 3rd batch (receive back expired Day 1 glyphs), Day 4 – Post Day 1 expired batch and recieve back expired Day 2 batch – craft anything that has been sold.
7:55pm
5. Do JC daily quest – takes 15 minutes.
Finish – 8:10pm
That is a total of 1 hour and 40 minutes devoted to gold making and I pull in around 3,500g doing that + 300g “worth” of a JC token doing the daily. Which translates into 2,280g/hour.
This is much different than my previous routine where I spent around 4 hours a night just doing gold making activities.
Could I make more gold if I spent more time? yes. But the activities I accomplish in this condensed time are the highest gold/hour methods that are available to me and are the best use of my time. I am currently holding off on any expenditures until I hit the gold cap, but if I was participating in PvP/PvE and buying the latest gear/gems/consumables I believe my gold income would be greater than my expenses.
How much time do you spend gold making?

I have been trying to work on my routine to stream line it. Having just moved servers I feel like I am not in a good stream line system yet.
I will however say that my glyphs are making 3x the amount on the new server then the old. In the past week I have made over 8k between glyphs and gems. I know this since I bought a hilt last week and it is STILL sitting on the Ah as the lowest.
I have a very different setup that I use. my daily schedule is very flexible and I´m able to log in often for a short time, so what i do to use this to my advantage is to post only 1 glyph of each sort, and only for 12 hours. but then I´ll log in for just 5-10min and post on my glyph alts. Doing this up to 5-10 times per day keeps my workload to a minimum and earnings to a max. the unsold glyphs just return fast and its quick to collect 150-200 glyphs in inbox.
On my server there are atleast 3 others that post in batches of 5 every now and then, but since i undercut them fast i get lots of profit and they do alot of posting and collecting mail. i also never use cancel function cuz thats a timesink.
last seven days i ended up +28000g from almost only glyphs.
so all in all it may be 1-2hours a day, but spread out alot. and i mill and make new glyphs while waiting for daily hc (am dps on insc char)
Hey guys,
quick question, how do you do your milling ? Because for me, i cant do anything else on the computer while doing it, since I have to click the macro?
From your tips I will stop using the cancel function, but my routine was pretty much cancel/post on my two alts and I would make glyph only every now and then because of how time consuming the milling is to me..The thing is, I dont own a character with inscription on my main account so I have to log on my friend’s account.
make a milling macro and bind it to key 1. Switch your game to windowed mode, turn off maximum, then you can move the whole WoW screen the far right and even move your cast bar to the far left of the WoW screen so you can see when you are casting milling.
Just press it every 4-5 seconds while you have Youtube or whatever on the other 85% of your screen.
Ok, didnt think about binding it, it’s much easier this way!
And I gave a look to your inscription leveling guide, and since i first posted i just levelled an alt to 430 inscription! Took me 35mins, didnt think it would be so easy from using the ink of the sea I already have. Just have to find 50 books now.
Anyway thanks for the tip and your website is great, keep it up!

I tend to spend alot of time on my moneymaking schedule. I have 2 alts for glyph’s divided by classes so i start up collecting and reposting what’s needed on both chars. I usualy dont log them very often but im kind of happy just making a couple of gold there each day. Then i log main who’s JC scribe and where i spend my time on having infidust, epic gems, flasks, stat+meta gems on lock on AH. I check for undercuts every 20-30min usualy after bg/random heroic or raids. It does take up alot of time overall but i would rather spend it like this then to level up fishing or cooking tbh
About half an hour a day, plus a few hours on the weekend for crafting.
.-= Euripides´s last blog ..Hunter DPS Addon Preview Video! =-.
Around 1.5hrs a day total. I log on before I go to work, cancel all my gem undercuts, re-post. I work afternoon shift which works great as my main JC competitor is clearly a dayshifter so I have a 6 hour time period each day where the market is mostly covered by my gems (although sometimes i’ve noticed they’ve logged in during their lunch break to undercut. lol easily fixed after 10 mins of waiting). Then a scan before work. Come home, log in collect around 1000g avg each day in sales, cancel/re-post again. Go raiding or whatever is happening. Come back to the auction house, The dayshifter has undercut most of my product (they usually camp the AH for hours while I’m raiding) but not to worry I still make around 200g avg regardless during this time. Re-post a final time, do another scan. Grab raw uncut gems with my snatch tool and go to bed. Rinse and Repeat. Weekends are usually my crafting time. If it’s a good week I can make between 6-9k gold. But I’ve been buying a lot of Titanium powder to get all the cuts lately so my liquid gold hasn’t budged too much. Up to 47 epic recipes now. /grin
I’m missing something in QA3 because I don’t see how to post additional auctions without canceling the ones which are undercut. If I understood you correctly you are doing something like:
1. Post Glyph of XYZ x 5 at Xg for 48 hours
2. Login on Day 2 and see you are undercut and repost (so you have 2 price points on the same glyph)
3. Login on Day 3 and do likewise (receive expires from day 1, repost so again you have two price points).
Do I understand that correctly? The thing I wonder about is if you are undercut on all 5 glyphs (say your competitor notices you logged off and immediately undercuts a large portion of your Glylphs) then you will not post anything for that set of Glyphs on day 2 without cancelling. That is, unless you can up the # posted on Day 2 to shield yourself from that situation.
Thought?
Hey, I’ve been following your website for a while and I love it! Your inscription information was amazing and I have the whole process automated now. I do have a problem with JC however. When it comes to using KevTools, setting a threshold and using /kt queue 5 glyphs is fine as they all cost pretty much the same. But with jewelcrafting, I have different thresholds I use depending on gem colour.
Is there anyway way I can get the kt queue to only add cuts for colours based on individual thresholds? I don’t want to set the global threshold to 10g as I won’t craft scarlet rubys under 50g, but I don’t want to set it to 50g as I will craft forest emeralds as low as 10g.
Cheers :]
Nevermind I’ve done it now. I was just being stupid and not making a macro. Just incase anyone else needs it (which im sure they dont) I just did:
/ktq set threshold 10g
/ktq queue 3 Forest Emerald
/ktq set threshold 50g
/ktq queue 3 Scarlet Ruby
etc
Can’t you be so nice to post your wft settings on your addons? your qa settings would be very nice to have =)
Unfortunately, I almost have to spend a lot of time in bidding wars with another glyph seller on my server. It’s really a pain because he’ll post his glyphs, then I’ll post mine, and we go back and forth for what seems like an eternity. Usually I’ll just give up around 5am and go to bed. I could swear he’s either a bot or has two people doing this because he’s never offline.
