I thought it’d be interesting to share my daily routine and how I go about my gold making activities in WoW.
I’m always looking for ways to increase the efficiency of my time so that I am making the highest gold an hour. I prioritize my time usually so that the highest gold/hr items are at the beginning and the least are near the end (incase I don’t have time for them and they get missed)
It’s good to record how much time you spend doing certain activities. You can see where your time sinks are and compare how much time you spend on those activities to how much gold you get in return. This will give you your gold/hour rate, be that from auction house flipping, crafting with professions, farming gold or putting on a light show for tips.
Gold Making Routine
Here’s what I did last evening after getting home from work (6pm – 12:ooam)
6pm – 6:10pm - Log on my 3 posting alts, collect mail, open AH (lets altoholic update my inventory amounts so I know what I am low on inventory on)
6:12pm – 6:18pm - Log on main crafter and buy up low priced herbs with Auctionator (Nothing to buy, Wednesdays are usually high priced days because so much sales happened on Tuesday that people are making more glyphs to restock their inventory.)
6:18pm – 6:21pm - Scan with Market Watcher to see any big changes in the items I regularly buy/sell
- Artic Furs surged to 75g each, Sold my last 5 yesterday for 65g each.
Looks like prices of almost every item have gone up (due to spike in playing on Tuesday night) so I can sell off a lot of items I’ve been stocking up on to resell.
6:21pm – 6:24pm - Run Getall auctioneer scan, make a coffee
6:24 – 6:40 - Do a “resale” scan to buy up any low priced items
- Made about 200g buying up 20 iridecent pearls, mote of mana, mote of earth. Today there wasn’t much stuff underpriced as Wednesdays prices are usually high.
6:40pm – 6:45pm - Removed Shadow Crystal, Dark Jade and Chalcedony from my snatch list as the new changes in the PTR will have the icy prism only require 1/3 of these items than before. I’ll add them again after patch 3.3.3 hits and I see what the new market price is.
- Bought up some primal earth, light leather, essence of earth at 50% value
6:45pm – 6:50pm – List items on AH with appraiser. When you do a refresh of items in your inventory appraiser shows you a quick snapshot under the item name in a color code of what the market price is. (example 1/3/10/393) Red means there’s 1 item priced more than 150% of the items worth, yellow means the item is within 75%-150% of its value, Green means it’s going for under 75% and Blue indicates the item is going lower than 50% (rough estimates).
When I do this quick refresh with appraiser I scroll the list and post anything that I see has only yellow or red auctions up or none.
6:54pm – 6:56pm - Scan with Glypher to find out what glyphs to make. This scans only glyphs on the AH and it will give me a current snapshot of all glyph prices. Lil’Sparkies Workshop uses these updated numbers with KTQ (Kevtool Queue) so that you can do /ktq queue 5 glyphs (and it’ll only make glyphs above your set threshold… mine is 5g 85s)
6:57pm – 7:30pm - done crafting 150 glyphs and 150 runescrolls of fortitude. My vellums were already at an acceptable inventory level.
7:37pm – 8:29pm – cancel/repost all glyphs across my 3 posting alts and post glyphs/vellums/runescroll that I just finished making.
- Made dinner, made some phone calls, posted on forums I frequent etc. while this was going on in the background.
8:30pm – 9:40pm - Crafted 96 darkmoon cards
I wanted to leave this till a later time because I’m eager to get my DK to level 65 and get JC/Ench powerleveled but the Darkmoon Faire will be over soon and it will be tough to sell any off-cards I don’t need and to buy up ones to complete decks.
- Went on the AH, bought cards I needed to complete decks
- Listed cards that I had excess of and was within 15% of the median price or greater
Death Knight 10k Project
9:40pm – 10:20pm - Set up Jewelcrafting snatch and bought out more stuff to prepare to powerlevel Jewelcrafting once my DK hits 65.
10:20pm – 11:50pm - Level DK, Went from 3% into 64 to dinging level 65! (had a full level of rested) I can now start powerleveling Jewelcrafting and Enchanting for the DK 10K project and also to incorporate into my daily gold making activities to hit the gold cap.
11:50pm – 12:50am – Start writing this post, while doing another cancel/reposting cycle across my 3 alts. I always cancel/repost when I know that I will be doing something outside of WoW since it takes very little effort and the AH Campers have been a little more ruthless lately. I always want my glyphs to be the cheapest to get the most sales.
That is a typical day, it is busier than normal since I spent an extra hour and 10 minutes making darkmoon cards which I only do once a month plus I spent another 45 minutes setting up my snatch to buy up all underpriced materials used in powerleveling Jewelcrafting from 1-450. This will combine with my current snatch list so I’ll always have control over the Jewelcrafting powerleveling market to buy items at low prices and flip them to other leveling JC’ers for a profit.
I am constantly tweeking my daily routine, before it used to be about 4 hours worth of inscription/auction house stuff but now that I’m trying to leveling Jewelcrafting/Enchanting on the side I’ve reduced the amount of time I put into inscription to 1 hour (in which time I can craft about 250 glyphs) and only focus on crafting the highest priced glyphs. This has meant my income from Inscription has gone down to 2k/day from 3,500g/day but my gold an hour has gone way higher.
Once I have JC/Ench leveled to max I’ll see how much gold/hr I make from those activities and either do them before or after my daily inscription activities depending on the profitability.
Another thing I am keeping in mind; I try to tailor all of my information on this site to be as practical as possible and something you can do to make gold in WoW. Not many players want to spend their whole playing session or 4 hours on gold making a day.
That is why very shortly after I reach the gold cap I will be getting back into PvP/Raiding while refining my gold making strategy to only take up 30 min – 1 hour of my daily playing time while still earning a large amount of gold weekly.
But I’m sure that will only be a temporary project I do for a while… since my obsession to make even more gold will drive me to try for a million
Anyways, I’m interested to hear your daily gold making activities and what goals you are working towards to make more gold in the game!

Sounds great. Kind of what I usually do, except that I don’t have any crafting professions. Keep up the good work man, I love reading your tips
Thanks Chrak, you definitely need to pick up some professions eventually
not only for the gold making benefits but for the stat buffs too.
Hi, Love your blog, I check it every day. I see you make some gold by crafting items. I am myself a JC. However it seems that gems are expensive on my server. For example a Cardinal Ruby sold for 165g on AH, but say Bold Cardinal Ruby goes for about $179. After AH cut, there is no much room for profit left. Do you think I should work on rare gems instead of Epic ones? Thanks
definitely worth investigating, you should read the post Wingman wrote here a few weeks ago: http://www.wowconfidential.com/2010/01/29/jewelcrafting-best-selling-rare-gems/
Hi,
First of all, great blog. I’ve been following for about 3 weeks and I like that you always have fresh content. Some of the other info sites are pretty dated and they have redundant gold-making tips. I’ve been trying my hand at Inscription and made almost 40k coming up to the 4th week since power-levelling it. Initially I posted all the glyphs on a posting alt but, and this I think might be curious to Inscription, as soon as you log off and onto your main, you see some other guy/s posting char log on and repost all his which had me relogging up to 15 times a day. (In enchanting/jc I can sometimes leave stuff up for 24 hours and it still sells even if undercut at some point). This got pretty frustrating quickly so I decided I’d drop a prof on my main (skinning) and take up Inscription.
There’s about 6 or 7 regular bulk posters on my realm, 3 or 4 of which like to camp it up throughout the day (*raises hand*, also guilty here). I still get undercut fairly regularly, but because I’m actually playing a lot on the char I post on anyway, its not nearly as frustrating. In fact, it puts the guys with posting alts on the defensive because they know I’m *always* on. Inscription is not for the faint-hearted that’s for sure. I post 2 of each glyph which makes about 400 auction postings each time and I’d guess I repost 6 or 7 times through the day (probably 3 of those during busy period of 16:00 – 17:00). I think you are really lucky if you only have 1 or 2 people with QA or another similar addon on your server (I mean this generally). If I couldn’t log on at different points during the day I’d probably make about 500g a day (still not bad I guess for posting once and leaving) max because of the undercutters. As it is I can pull in about 2k – 2.5k a day pretty easily, for about 2 hours milling/posting etc.
The thing I really love about Inscription is that I can make the glyphs at pretty much zero cost when taking into account selling the snowfall and other inks. I still only make the ones that go for 4g or more. This works great if other Inscriptionists also do similar because it gives the price a chance to reset when the only ones posting are levellers. Its funny sometimes a glyph will be worth 40g and be undercut down to 2g over the course of a few weeks, then all of a sudden its back to 30g+ gold when people stop bothering to make it past their threshold.
I have about 60 or so of various cards which I think of as a kind of side project on a slow-burner til I get the missing few cards for the decks. All in all, a very interesting prof to have. Its pretty awesome seeing the volume of sales in this market with people respeccing and dual-speccing. Some new high level Darkmoon cards would be nice to see.
Anyway, keep up the great blog
Blud
Thanks for the support man.
That is the inscription market for ya, when I first entered I was very glued to my alts and doing constant cancelling/reposting until I realized how much of my time it was taking up.
A full cancel/repost cycle for me takes around 30 minutes, I post 5x of every glyphs above 5g 85s. if I pull in around 2,500g/day profit and I want to keep my “gold/hr rate” at around 800-1200g/hr that’d mean I could only do 2 cancel/repost cycles.. since it takes an hour to make 250 glyphs.
That also scales with the prices though, if your glyphs are selling for 15g or 20g+ each then you can definitely put more time into cancelling/reposting.. but if you are sitting by the AH donig cancel/repost on all 3-5g glyphs it may be really lowering your gold/hr.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoy the blog!

Why are you using glypher and KTQ? Don’t they do the same thing?
I only use the “Scan Glyphs” button in glypher as KTQ doesn’t have a way to refresh the current auction house glyph prices.
I guess the same thing can be done by selecting the glyphs category in auctioneer and pressing the play (scan) button.
Heylo! I love your blog, and it has great amounts of information. I’m a bit new to the Glyph making business, and I was wondering wether you buy all kinds of herbs to supply your glyph making, or just the Northrend ones that you trade?
I just buy northrend ones except some recipes such as Armor Vellum 1 (which I make very rarely) takes Alabaster pigments which come from the lowest level herbs and those are always way cheaper.
I’d say 90% of my herbs come from Adder’s/Icethorn and then converted at Jessica Sellers to the other inks I need. Sometimes Tiger Lilly/Deadnettle is cheap enough to buy but I usually only get those at 50-55% the cost of an Adder’s.
Thank you very much for the quick response! On my server, it seems that it is the other way around. Adder’s Tongue is very hard to find (on the AH), and Tiger Lily / Deadnettle is usually 50% of the Tongues.
My pc has been broken since friday, and I started out trying the glyph industry on thursday -last week – wasn’t using many addons to help me. I was using Panda, Lilsparkies Workshop, Bagnon, Auctionator and Altoholic. I didn’t do much research as what to do that would help me that thursday. What I did was purchase many herbs with the help of Auctionator, I made a shopping list with the name of all herbs, I bought around 36 stacks of Tigers Lilly going for 6g a stack 0.o bought around 12 stacks of Adder’s Tongue(18g a stack, the other Adder stacks were at 30g so I skiped those)amongst other Northrend herbs that were being sold at 60 silver or less per unit.
So while I was doing my raids I was milling with that nice macro we all know, and then creating inks. I then did not think of a way to calculate which inks to buy, so I just randomly traded the inks, and with Panda+Lilsparkies, I could see all the glyphs and what they were beeing sold for, so I just went crazy clicking on all the glyphs that were beeing sold for 18+ gold, making around 2-5 of each, and posted them. Also made a few Runescrolls of Fortitude for myself and to sell, a couple of armor+weapon vellums and hunter scrolls.
I wake up next day, and my pc won’t turn on, I have now been 6 days without my pc (will get it back today) and am eager to see how it went. While my pc has been broken, I have been researching the glyph industry on the web and found this blog, which I am greatfull for, I have gotten and written down so many tips its amazing! I can’t wait to get my pc back so I can play on the AH and raid again
ps: My RL job is actually very similar to what we are doing here, thus making it a bit easier for me
I am a coffee trader, buying green beans from farmers, selling the lots in the NY ICE market, and exporting the green beans overseas for better profit, in your terms it would be coffee flipping
That would be a very interesting jobs, I always thought if I could find a RL industry that has similar traits as the skills and activities used in the WoW Economy it would be my dream job
Good luck with your sales, unfortunately someone probably undercut all your glyphs after a day of them being up but you probably sold a good amount of them.
Also, you shouldn’t spend too much time deciding which glyphs to make, use Auctioneer + KTQ + Skillet + Lil’Sparkies, do a glyph scan with auctioneer, then go to KTQ and do /ktq set threshold 10g or whatever amount you want, which will only make glyphs that are currently going above 10g.
Since the profit margins on glyphs are the same for each one (except 2 ink glyphs, but that is going to change in patch 3.3.3) you can be sure that the profit margin you get will be high as long as you are crafting at >4g profit per glyph.
Also keep in mind your snowfall inks you are getting and factor that into your profits per glyph.
Good luck! keep us updated on your results.
Thanks again
And yeah, I figured that out – use Auctioneer + KTQ + Skillet + Lil’Sparkies + QA3 – while reading your blogs
am still not getting my pc back today, just called the store and they are still having trouble in fixing it
So I guess I will have to wait a bit more then, and mourn the loss of ~30 emblems of frost and a few k gold
When my pc is back I will install and setup all the addons, and with that, I have a quick question about auctioneer:
Will it use data I have scanned from Auctionator? Or should I scan the AH a week or two before I start posting my auctions? [I will most likelly scan it once after I wake up, and again before I sleep while watching some series]
Well, I have gotten my pc back the day before yesterday, took me one day to download and install wow again, had to readjust my UI and addons while tanking ICC for my guild (they didnt raid while I was away, we lack tanks lol).
So after all this, I went to check my glyph banker/vendor. Had around 1.8k gold there in the mail box, and many unsold glyphs [keep in mind I spent around 750g on herbs]. I then posted them all back again, still not using the addons you have suggested because of lack of time (coffee trading takes most of my day, leaving me ~4 hours to raid and play).
While I have been at work, and there have been down times (market is kind of slow now), I have been using http://www.logmein.com to remotelly access my computer at home, check the AH and buy cheap herbs, and let them accomulate and mill them while waiting for boss pulls.
I have also been trying to control the “Book of Glyph Mastery” market. Since I did not have all glyphs yet, I decided to buy-out all the books in the AH (they were selling on a average of 20g a book) there were around 30-40 of them. I used half of them to learn new glyphs, the other half, I posted back on the AH at around 45g (roughly 210% higher) – and yes, they have been selling at this price. Of course people have been undercutting me, I have just been buying them and posting them back, or learning. So yeah, I am slowly learning all the glyphs, while making some gold out of it.
The weekend came, and I have now started following your suggestions and learning how to use the addons. On friday I used the KTQ and set it to make 5 of each glyph, I used maybe 120-200 stacks of herbs to start it off [I wish I had a bird that would press my mill button]. I set my Quick Auctions3 to make all the glyphs that would give me 10g profit and set the value of herbs at 1g20s, so I wouldn’t have to make a huge ammount of glyphs at first (it was still an enormous quantity). Well, after making them all, creating a toon with special leters so competition wouldnt add me to firnd list, and buying him all the Inscription bags, I started posting the auctions with QA3. Next morning I wake up to see how it went, and had 4k gold in the mailbox! It actually exceeded my expectations.
I found a guildmate to sell me all his Tiger lilly’s, Goldclovers and Dreadnettles for 10g a stack!(he farms other herbs to make pots and wont use those), and he will send me daily around 36 stacks. Well, with this great oportunity, I kept on making glyphs, was selling alot, but was also getting undercut very often, every 4 hours or so I would be undercut on around 750-1000 auctions (very annoying, but where theres money, theres competition).
Anyways, I know it is still early to trust the average daily income from the statistics page, but it show me to be making 10k gold a day, thanks for all your info and help into making this possible
Unfortunatelly I have a great project going on IRL, and will have to take a break from glyph making till this is done, I will be back in business very shortly though
