Analysis and Discussion of Making Gold in World of Warcraft

wowconfidential On November - 20 - 2008

In this article I introduce a segment new to wowconfidential.com called “Market Watch” where I provide precise details on an area of the Auction House where I see potential profit and pass the news to my visitors. You won’t find this information on any other site!

While most players are still on their way to level 80 in WOTLK, it is wise to think ahead of anticipated demand.

Achievements were introduced by blizzard as a time-sink and reason to complete other facets of the game that don’t offer gear upgrades.

Players priorities rest in leveling, gearing up – both pve(raids, instances, reputation) and pvp(arena, BG), professions and lastly achievements. With some top guilds already reporting they have cleared out everything WOTLK has to offer so far, the market for achievement items that can be bought on the AH will slowly start to rise.

A noticeable spike occurred in all these prices before wotlk came out, obviously because no one had anything to do but try and get those cool titles and have a more “complete” character. The prices have lowered now since everyone is focused on leveling but I expect those prices to return to that higher price and even more since players will have more cash via dailies and quests.

Continue reading for the most profitable items to buy/sell and produce

Here is a comprehensive list of items which can be produced from a profession or bought from a vendor where you can control the market and expect huge returns, a way I make gold right now along with following Luke’s Guide’s. You can buy unlimited pets from the vendor and stock pile them in your alt’s bank. When you notice a certain pet is not available on the AH or the price is really high, put it up for sale and watch them sell for 2x – 50x the price you bought them from a vendor!

In this part (Part 1) I will be focusing on the General Achievement to obtain companion pets:

This achievement has 4 stages:

Can I Keep Him?

Plenty of Pets

Plethora of Pets

Shop Smart, Shop Pet…Smart

Reward: Reeking Pet Carrier – Stinker

*NOTE: (VP = Vendor Price) (CP = Crafting Cost) (APP = Auctioneer Purchased Price – price my auctioneer has seen this sell for more than 10 times)

First of all, I love this site. Looks like a fun alternative to wowinsider and take it as a compliment that this blog has been keeping me from work for a good hour while I browsed through the topics.

Loved the write up, one little detail though. I don’t think the phoenix hatchling will ever pop up on the AH as it’s still BoP. Agree on the pricing on the others, especially on the suggestion of buying and reselling, that’s how I got my epic bird. Everyone who’s even a bit serious about making money should be aware that there are a lot of idiots/clueless people out there that just don’t understand the value of a given item.

    Peace

hey, really appreciate the compliment, I spend a lot of time gathering this information and putting it into a trimmed down article.

While I love doing this sort of stuff, finding loopholes in the game and using common sense and market analysis to break down the economy/game, its nice to know other people can find value from the articles.

Thanks for the find btw, I meant for this article to be BOE only stuff that could be sold on the AH, I’ll edit that part.

Prices are Still standing around that amount…

Thanks to AH pets, in barely 2 mths time was jumping on a Traveling Mammoth :)

I too have immensely enjoyed your articles. I have not read them all and I have not understood them all either but they are useful – the problem is just me.

I have increased my income slightly by watching the AH more closely and buying or bidding on low priced things even if I do not have a need for them as long as it looks like I can resell them for a profit. Some success ;-) some losses :-( but I am learning.

I am wondering if our server is much more lowly populated than yours but on Uldaman it does not seem like there are anywhere the number of auctions you seem to have to work with.

I will keep going back and rereading your articles and watching the vids in hopes that more and more will begin to sink in as I expand my efforts. Here I thought that my 10k gold was really something. NOT! LOL

Thanks again and keep up the work. I hope you enjoy your trip to Cuba.

BTW, the pet thing is a really neat idea. Many people will not go to the effort it takes to visit a vendor and will gladly pay the freight to have their prospective pets delivered directly. I’m gonna give it a try.
