Analysis and Discussion of Making Gold in World of Warcraft

wowconfidential On March - 12 - 2008

While World of Warcraft is a very immersive game, there are times when it doesn’t need our full attention:

  • Running an instance you are so used to (and you aren’t the main puller/tank/Healer)
  • Grinding levels
  • Raiding

What do you do during these times and how do you make it more entertaining?

Here are a few that I’ve heard of or done myself:

  1. Put on the tv/movie in the background – While I’m not actually “watching” whats on, it serves as some background noise and something to look back and forth to when I’m waiting on something in game. My friend once suggested I watch Fight Club because it was a great movie, a word of advice; never try to watch Fight Club or any movie that requires you to actually follow the story line if you are playing WoW! I look back near the end of the movie and was so confused my head hurt.
  2. Listen to music/podcast – Listening to music I would assume is the highest form of entertainment people use while playing, however podcasts have become a huge favourite of mine, mostly ones on things like “The History Of Nearly Everything”  “The Histry of the Roman Empire”  Combine gaming with learning, now thats wow-learning! If you know of any good WoW podcasts, feel free to suggest them in the comments.
  3. Read WoW forums and browse articles – I generally do this when there are large gaps of free time or a hotly debated subject on the forums. I also browse loot tables for the instance I am currently in to see what epic gear awaits me!
  4. Logon to MSN/Facebook – The ultimate time killers, people tend to get really frustrated with me when they try to have a conversation while I am playing WoW, my friends say half way through the conversation “Where are you? Hello?? are you playing WoW again? Ahhh stop msging me when you’re playing!” I think I do it just to annoy some of them.

So what else do you do while playing world of warcraft?

Leave below any suggestions you have for WoW friendly: types of music, songs, podcasts, tv shows etc.

I think you pretty much covered it all right there :)

If you have a willing girlfriend (or boyfriend) they an probably add some “excitement” value to WoW. We won’t go into details on that one.

Also, I like to do casual hobbies of mine as well. I play guitar while doing an instance I’ve already done a thousand times, because all I have to do is click the mouse occasionally. I have to find time to write songs for my band somewhere!

Another thing which I have tried (and failed) to do is play another game while playing WoW. Hooking up my 360 to the TV while playing WoW on my laptop provides some interesting results…

I listen to music while playing, especially running instances I’ve done a few hundred times but I sincerely hope I never find myself in an instance or have to rely on any of you people.

I normally heal, so to make things interesting, I try to both heal and climb the DPS charts. It gets the other DPS’s attention when the holy priest is out-DPSing them, usually resulting in the others kicking it into high-gear, and making the tank have to really fight to keep aggro. Speeds up the run considerably.

Another fun thing is to facepull trash if you’re friends with the tank. He’ll either let you die and laugh at you, or he’ll have to try to save you. Just make sure his taunts aren’t still on CD, or you might have just boned your group.

In pre-BC I used to play Madden while leveling my paladin. Luckily paladins are more interactive now, so it’s harder to pull that off without having to pause after plays. I always have music playing, sometimes I can’t hear what’s going on over vent in raids, but w/e. The podcast thing is a good idea. Learning something while I’m playing would be a good use of time.

i listen to podcasts or funny tv shows or somtimes some funny acts. ya, i also message meanwhile and i should put the idle setting off.. ‘wth r u doing, playing again’. and me’d be like ‘nooo, i’m researching something’

I like to do push ups or lift weights while waiting on party members in raids or instances. Its a good way to excuse all the hours I spend playing.
