A blue poster has confirmed today that ink traders will be added to both Stormwind and Orgrimmar in patch 4.0.6:

“Ink Traders are being added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar in 4.0.6.”

People have been requesting an ink trader be added to major cities since the start of Cataclysm, given that there are no longer portals available in Dalaran and since most people have their hearthstones set to either Stormwind or Orgimmar you’d have to find a mage to teleport you each time you need to craft glyphs and waste your hearth cooldown to get back.

I would be more excited about the news but for me it was never a big hinderance, I have engineering and with the Wormhole Generator: Northrend it was very easy for me to teleport over, I was even considering spending the 8,000g on the ring that teleports you directly to dalaran to save me from flying from storm peaks (since the wormhole generator doesn’t go directly to dalaran), good thing I didn’t now.

For me this is bad news as it may entice more people to get back into the inscription market since this reduces the effort or barriers to craft glyphs but I do see it as a positive change to the game as a whole.

The new ink traders can be found beside the Inscription Supplies vendors in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, you can also find them on the PTR right now.

I am a bit disappointed with this news. I thought with getting rid of the portals was to spread out the players. Instead they seem to send everything – daily quests, honor\justice merchants, portals, ships etc to Stormwind. Since cata launched I’ve hardly been to ironforge\exodar\danarassus and why should I if they stick everything in Stormwind?

Sometimes it is (was) nice to escape Stormwind to get some stuff :) . Putting unique things in the other cities would be nice if only to give them a purpose.

I have to agree that it seems on the surface that this will get more people back into the glyph market. I have to say though, I am not trading very much ink. The cost of blackfallow is high enough that I am buying, milling and crafting inks per glyph directly. The new TradeSkillMaster addon did make this process extremely more simple for me.

I can post glyphs as low as 9g and still make 6g a glyph. People tend to not chase as low if they are trading in 9g inks and I am crafting with 75s ink.

I disagree, this is just pure good news.

People have left the market because they think now glyph are permanent the market is dead.

Giving them a trader wont change a single thing.

Also there is not a lot of trading actually worthing it. Who’s gonna buy Ink of the sea with blackfallow ink?

I enjoy going to dal to make my glyphs in peace. Very tranquil.

That ring helps a lot too. Before I remembered the ring, I used the argent tournament tabard to teleport me and had to fly over.

  5. This is great news, I’ve been waiting for this since Cataclysm! How could they have forgotten it?

Previously I had been porting over to Dalaran using my Jaina’s Locket. I loved casting a portal as a druid! haha

I hope you don’t mind if I make a note of this in my upcoming blog post on the new patch?

This is all fine and dandy, though it never really bothered me much as I had a Mage alt that could just get the inks for me via game mail. The thing I would like to have answered is the Books of Glyph Mastery. Are they going to increase the drop-rate or make them available in Cataclysm zones? I read the patch notes and there is NOTHING. Maybe 3.0.10 :P
