Analysis and Discussion of Making Gold in World of Warcraft

posting quick auctions

Another addon has been developed by fellow gold making guru Zerotorescue, the developer of the awesome Mail Opener Addon.

This addon is a tweek to the Quick Auctions interface, it’ll add a toggle check mark beside the post button, what this does is make quick auctions continuously try to repost auctions.

Instantly Undercut Competitors

Quick auctions will only post auctions if you’ve been undercut or have no current stock up and the price is above your threshold, well if you had a continuous loop of trying to post auctions that would mean when you go for your next posting cycle and you have been undercut quick auctions will then undercut that lowest auction by the amount you set in the config.

Here’s the description Zero wrote on his addon page:

“This addon is a plugin for Quick Auctions that adds a checkbox to the auction house posting frame with which you can toggle continuous scanning and posting of Quick Auctions. It saves you the effort of hitting the post button whenever a scan has finished. Sadly because this Quick Auctions button doesn’t have a name and it’s function is private, this action can’t be macroed but this addon manages to obtain the correct button and simulates a click on it.”

The addon is called: Quick Auctions Poster <— here’s the curse download link.

Things to Keep in Mind

1. This addon was developed with blizzards API, so it is consistent with the terms of use and should not get you banned. However I would think there is some risk involved in using this so please beware… I will be trying this out though and I’ll let you know if I get action against my account.

2. Given the nature of how this works, QA only checks the posts of items you currently have in your inventory so it’d be hard to use this with glyphs. I could see using this with the most popular glyphs then just leaving the toggle on and you’ll remain the lowest price until it goes below your threshold.

3. If you plan on using this addon for certain items make sure that you change your quantity to post. For example I usually post 4 of each glyph, but if I ran this set up it’d try to post 4 of the same glyph everytime I was undercut. I think you’d want to set this to post only 1 of each auction if you plan to leave this on autopilot and make sure that you have sufficient quantity in your bags.

In my honest opinion I’d give this addon a few days before trying out or monitor it’s use while testing it.. Zero’s other addon the Mail Opener one I mentioned above had a lot of players saying “oh this is against the rules you’ll get banned!” because it opens all your mail for you which should require a click.. but the addon has been out for a couple months now with thousands of downloads and no complaints of bans from its use.

Good review of the addon but im sure the auctioneer addon also has this feature aswell as others in the addon

    • Kraklin says:

negative, auctioneer has appraiser and a single post function. Which are useful if you are manually posting or queueing up a bunch of posts.

Nothing in auctioneer will post auctions for you that you were undercut on automatically while you’re away from the computer. This method will continually check to see if you’re undercut and will post a new lower auction for you while you’re afk.

This addon is going to be bad news for us AH folk. Blizzard isn’t going to like this “set up your AH bot and go to work” idea one bit, but it’s not doing anything that QA isn’t already doing, except for automatically hitting Post. Individual auctions are already posted automatically once Post is hit (or the Batch method in Auctioneer). I see Blizzard setting up a “one click = one post” restriction in their API to counteract this.

Until then, you’re damn skippy I’m setting this up. If a competitor (or multiples) does the same, I’ll guess we’ll find out real quick who has the lowest threshold price and thus the thinnest profit margin (or dumbest farmers! :D )

A work around would be as simple as QuickAuction’s cancel button. Auctioneer is going to have more troubles with such a change.

It would make little sense though as extensive undercutting is good for the customer. This is also support by the most likely reasoning for making cancel auction a protected function (although a simple workaround was possible and it had very little effect in the end).

      • Tin says:

A workaround like that is fine, though. There is a big difference between setting up rules to say “when X happens, I want to post/cancel item Y”, then pressing a button to have those rules fire once, and having the same button continuously monitor those rules for you all day. It’s too much like a bot (in fact, it is a bot).

Also, it has the effect of making it very difficult and frustrating for casuals to participate in the AH, because their auctions are being undercut literally seconds after they post them. Casuals are Blizzard’s precious snowflakes :) , and frustrating them is Bad Business.

Finally, there is a clear and significant difference between the functionality of this addon between Alliance and Horde, simply because there is no Horde auction house which has both the mailbox and auctioneers reachable without moving (Alliance has Stormwind AH). The Horde functionality of this addon is limited by the auctioneer’s stock, which the Alliance functionality is unlimited except by listing fees. This isn’t a reason for Blizzard to can it; it’s just something that popped into my head, and I found it interesting :) .

It is interesting that this mod does the same function as setting up scripts to automate the Remote AH (only from a seller standpoint, though). I haven’t heard if Blizzard has had any official/blue stance on this automation — it’s a clear ToS violation, but sort of hard to detect, isn’t it?

        • Zerotorescue says:

A blue stance on this is probably going to be useless as most GMs are very uninformed about the addon policies.

  3. Purebusiness says:

If using this, you will go afk and eventually be logged out automaticly, right?

    • Cynic says:

Yes, upon experimenting with this addon last night, you WILL go afk and eventually log out at the 30min mark.

This addon is nice but there is a pretty big ‘issue’ with it… Your competitor’s auctions will never sell so your auctions never have a chance to get listed at a higher price point UNLESS your competition pulls out.

It becomes a question of whether you would want your competition to sell so you can make a higher profit OR be happy with a lower profit and your competition not to make a sale.

Just curious how this works..if i set the post limit to one, i post my glyph, it gets undercut then this mod will automatically try and post another one…but will it since since my qa is set to 1 and the undercut auction is still on the AH…hope that makes since

    • Warchief says:

Nvm i figured it out…the posting threshhold is per Auction, not total of items on the AH…so everytime this addon initiates a new scan it starting a “new” Auction. OMG and my server thought i relentless on the AH before… Just sucks that both glyph poster and ench/JC are on the same server since ill have to pick which one i want to run this with…can only fit soo many items into my toons bag sadly. Perhaps ill pick about a dozen of thee most profitable/popular glyphs and create stacks of 20 of them and leave them in my ench/JC’s bag when i run this addon with them. I am sorta worried an addon like this will cause blizzard to break the automatic posting feature in qa3. : / If say a dozen people have this addon going at one time, the AH will be a joke and blizz will HAVE to do something.

      • Warchief says:

*Thee above comments are not an Admission that I have downloaded these addons, or have any intent to use such addons. Any mention of such addons is purely hypothetical*

I will of course wait until the addons are found to not be in violation of ToS.
