ktq addon

KTQ is one of the most essential gold making addons I use. It was released by Kevmar (you can find him still active online writing about WoW and SC2 on his blog).

What is KTQ?

KTQ (KevTool Queue) is an addon that queues up items to be crafted in your skillet window based on a bunch of criteria.

The best part of the addon is that it takes into account your current inventory levels and will only queue the amount needed to bring you up to the amount you want to keep in stock.

KTQ Features

Queuing with KTQ

The basic command of KTQ is to type the following, the brackets are not needed but are variable areas:  /KTQ queue [insert amount of inventory to craft] [Insert name of item or "group name"]

Group names are premade groups that Kevmar created with the release of KTQ, the ones I know of are: glyphs, raregems, and epicgems. This will create ALL glyphs and raregems/epicgems (only WOTLK rares/epics of course) that you have the recipe for.

Example: /ktq queue 5 glyphs. This will make 5x of every glyph (but will only stock you up to 5 so if you have 2 already in your bank or inventory it will only craft 3)

Example 2: You can use a partial keyword that will create all items with that name – /ktq queue 4 scarlet    (will craft 4 of every scarlet ruby cut you know)

KTQ Queuing Macro

If you are only making glyphs with KTQ you won’t need macros, however when you start to craft multiple items that you want to keep different levels of stock on then you’ll want to make a macro.

type /macro to make  a macro

you can now add a bunch of /ktq queue commands depending on the inventory levels you want, here’s an example of the macros I currently use in my gem market.

Macro 1

/ktq queue 2 raregems
/ktq queue 2 epicgems
/ktq queue 2 Bold scarlet ruby
/ktq queue 1 bright scarlet ruby
/ktq queue 2 Solid Sky Sapphire
/ktq queue 2 delicate cardinal ruby
/ktq queue 2 solid majestic zircon
/ktq queue 3 chaotic skyflare diamond

since everything didn’t fit due to the character limit; I had to make another macro

Macro 2

/ktq queue 4 relentless earthsiege diamond
/ktq queue 1 rigid autumn’s glow
/ktq queue 2 glowing dreadstone

What this macro does is queue 2 of every raregem/epic gem that I know. It then creates additional stock of the other gems listed. So for Solid Sky Sapphire, 2 are created from the raregems command line, and an additional 2 are created in the separate command bringing my inventory level to 4 since I post that amount every time on the auction house. Note that Meta cuts like chaotic skyflare and Relentless earthsiege are not a part of epicgems or raregems group.

That’s it, I just open up skillet and press the number 2 and 3 key (since I have macro 1 bound to 2 and macro 2 bound to 3) and this will queue up all my gems to the stock I want to carry. Be sure to open your auction house and retrieve all your mail so that Altoholic (KTQ dependancy) knows how much inventory you have currently.

Wingman gave me a great tip, apparently you can use item numbers instead of the full spelling which will greatly reduce the size of your macros and could condense it all to one macro. Go to wowhead.com and you can see the item number of any item in the url when you search for an item.

Example: Chaotic Skyflare Diamond. You can see in the url at the top, at the end it says “item=41285″

Used in a macro that would be:

/ktq queue 3 41285

Advanced Features

You can see all optional features of KTQ by type /ktq

KTQ addon features

Bonusqueue – This feature should only be used if you craft daily. What it does is if you enable it it’ll craft whatever “bonus” amount you have set if it notices you are completely out of stock of the item.

To enable the feature –  /ktq enable bonusqueue     then configure it by doing –  /ktq set bonusqueue [insert amount here]

Example: I craft glyphs every day and make 5 of every glyph, but have a bonusqueue of 5 more for ones I run out of:  /ktq set bonusqueue 5       /ktq queue 5 glyphs  (this will make 10 of any glyphs that I am out of stock on)

Skip Singles – One of my favourite features. The thing that slows you down the most when crafting a lot of different items is the amount of times you need to press “process” in the skillet window for each new item in the queue. When you are just topping up items that you need to craft 1 of this adds much manual labour. Enabling  /ktq enable skipsingles   will make it so that if you just need to create 1 item it’ll skip it from the queue. I highly recommend this for glyphs.

Threshold – Another great feature for use in the glyph market. Since all glyphs have the same crafting cost (especially now that they are all 1 inks instead of 2) You can tell KTQ to only make the glyphs that are above a certain price. Take note that you need to do a fresh scan of the glyph category on the AH to refresh the values of all the glyphs, I use the “glypher” feature of auctioneer to do this, but it could easily be done by just selecting the category and clicking the play button at the top with auctioneer.

I set my KTQ threshold to 8g 50s, since my total cost (including profits from snowfall inks) to craft glyphs is 2g 17s (with 1g icethorn/adders each) That means I’m getting a 5g 42s profit if the glyph sells at my threshold.

/ktq enable threshold
/ktq set threshold 8g50s

Fallback – I’ve never used this feature and to be quite honest I don’t know what it does. From reading the description in the image above I assume that if KTQ notices nothing is posted on the AH then it’ll create extra inventory for you to post.

KTQ Dependancies

One problem many players seem to have when installing KTQ for the first time is that it’s very picky with other addon dependancies.

Altoholic – Keeps track of items across your whole account. KTQ uses this number to verify your total item stock (so if you have a seperate posting alt and crafting alt it knows where the items are)

Auctioneer (optional) – You could use KTQ without auctioneer but you wouldn’t be able to use the threshold feature since it takes item prices from auctioneer.

Skillet (Lil’Sparkies clone) – The version of skillet needed is very picky or else it won’t work, you need to download the Skillet Lil’Sparkies clone version found on WoW Ace.
The only downside to this fantastic addon is that it seems Kevmar is drifting away from WoW a bit and I’m so comfortable with KTQ in my crafing routine that if it was ever to get broken from a patch I don’t know what I’d do! Fingers crossed that it remains stable and Kevmar could come back for fixes.

    A few comments:

    - Threshold is based on the last scan of auctioneer, with the lowest posting price as the limit. For example, Ghoul Touch might normally be worth 17g and have 15 postings but if there’s one listed for 2g, that’s the number KTQ will use. If someone is carpet bombing with bad settings (such as having no idea how to use the fallback setting in QA3 for example), it will mess up your ability to use this tool. Conversely, if the market value for Icy Touch is 2g but the only posting is at 10g, KTQ will queue it up for you.

    - Threshold does not take into considering material costs. Though Ink of the Sea might have low costs, Shimmering & Ethereal inks run about 5g per craft (on my server at least). KTQ will queue these lower end glyphs, so you will need to pay attention.

    - Finding the right BASE threshold. Most often, I calculate base cost of materials +50% or 15g, whichever is lower. Cardinal Rubies run for 130g, so that brings the threshold to 145g. Forest Emeralds cost 5g, so the threshold is 7.5g. 99% of the time, the threshold will be the same for a Delicate, Bright or Bold cut. The reason I call this a BASE threshold is because it takes into account your costs for mats, the AH cut and the fee for 24 hours of posting (I only post gems for 12h stints at a time). This will give you an idea of what you can cut for minimal profit.

    - Suggested macros based on thresholds.
    /ktq set threshold 145g
    /ktq queue 5 cardinal ruby
    /ktq set threshold 7g50s
    /ktq queue 5 forest emerald

This macro will make 5 cuts of any cardinal ruby you have that will sell for more than 145g each, no matter how many cuts you have. If you find that it’s queueing every cut you have then raise the threshold in the macro. You want this problem :)

Actually been having problems with ktq and maybe you can help me. When I queue up say /ktq queue 2 glyph, it refuses to be automated when I click Start. So what I’m having to do is constantly click start everytime a set of glyphs is done.. is this normal?

    • Mortanak says:

Yes, you cannot have addons craft all glyphs for you with a single click. Blizzard don’t allow it in their UI. This addon simply queues glyphs up for you allowing you to just spam the start button instead of manually searching for which glyphs to craft and which to skip.

      Hope that helps

  3. Merry says:

Is there a macro that’d work for constantly hitting the Start button then? Problem at the moment for any kind of speed is that spamming the Start button will cause it to pause which really defeats any real usefulness that KTQ supposedly has over say QA3 except that KTQ would pregenerate the list for you and QA3 you’d manually go through and select which glyphs based on price and quantity.

    • Mortanak says:

KTQ was designed to allow you to quickly choose the glyphs you wish to create based on prices and thresholds, not to create them for you. The only option you have for what you’re asking is to use an auto-clicker to click every 1 second, but this is against Blizzard’s ToS and may get you banned. You might be able to turn the pause feature off in skillet, I’m not sure.

In your screenshot, is that the Lilsparky’s clone of Skillet? If so, how do set it so it won’t show the Profit columns from Lil Sparky Workshop, and the total number of produce-able item?

  5. Anon says:

Is there any way to put in a bagspace criterion for KTQ? I have 3 inscription bags and I’d like to avoid going over that limit, even if there are a few new glyphs I could craft?

Also I assume it just skips over glyphs you don’t have mats for currently or adds them to your shopping list?

  6. Calicocal says:

I downloaded the version of skillet that you linked, but when I am using it and I click to open my inscription nothing happens. Any ideas?

  7. Alfred says:

hmm KTQ doesnt take into account the number of glyphs you currently have in the AH ? So i need to keep everything in my bag before running the macro ?
.-= Alfred´s last blog ..Free Monitor colour calibration software – QuickGamma =-.

  8. Jane Gray says:

I also can’t get it to work… had to download altoholic and enable five zillion things and it still doesn’t work, because for some reason the version of skillet available on that link doesn’t work (if skillet is enabled, clicking the enchanting window causes nothing to happen)

  9. Jake says:

Worked for me, should work for you.

    Addon list:
    Altoholic
    Datastore
    Gnomeworks
    LilSparky’s Workshop
    Skillet
    KTQ

(Addon Control Panel – Highly recommended to turn all these on/off easily)

*Tailoring list works; enchanting does not. Still working on that.

    • Jake says:

Enchanting fix: open up the lua file, control-f and search for scrollid, delete [''ScrollID''] and you’re good to go… for now.
